Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

While the misconception exists that RCT is painful, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring that the patient does not feel pain during the treatment. After the procedure, some discomfort is normal but can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

The duration of RCT depends on the complexity of the case and the number of root canals involved. In general, a single-visit RCT can take about 60 to 90 minutes, while multiple visits may be required for more complex cases.

RCT is necessary when the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or trauma. If left untreated, the infection can spread and lead to severe pain and abscess formation.

After RCT, the tooth may be restored with a filling or crown to protect it and restore its function. Patients may experience some discomfort or mild pain after the procedure, which can be managed with medications. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor the healing process and ensure the tooth is functioning properly.
