Side effects, honestly

Most patients experience none of these. Some patients, in rare cases, may notice the following — listed because you deserve the full picture before you decide.

Redness and sensitivity

The usual response, typically lasting a few hours to two days. A cold compress helps. Persistent redness or blistering should be reported to the clinic.

Sun sensitivity

Treated skin reacts more strongly to UV. Sun exposure before or after a session raises the risk of burns and pigmentation, so sunscreen and shade matter for the whole course.

Temporary pigment change

Occasional lightening or darkening of the treated area can occur, particularly on deeper skin tones, and usually settles. Correct settings for your skin type are what keep this uncommon.

When it is not suitable

Laser hair reduction is not recommended during pregnancy, or for people with vitiligo or other autoimmune skin conditions. Tell your doctor about either at consultation.

About this treatment

Laser hair reduction works on a simple principle: the pigment in a hair absorbs laser light far more readily than the surrounding skin does, so energy travels down the shaft and heats the follicle enough to disable it. The greater the contrast between hair and skin, the cleaner that targeting is — which is why older lasers struggled on deeper skin tones and why the diode systems used here, with integrated cooling, are the appropriate choice for Indian skin.

The part worth understanding before you book is why it takes a course. A follicle can only be disabled while it is in its active growth phase, and at any moment only a fraction of your hair is. Six to eight sessions, spaced out, is what it takes to catch each follicle in that window. It is also why "one session did nothing" is a misreading of how the treatment works rather than a sign it has failed.

And it is a reduction. Some follicles survive; some regrow later; hormonal changes can prompt new growth entirely. What a completed course reliably delivers is far less hair, growing back finer and lighter, with occasional maintenance instead of a permanent waxing appointment. Any clinic promising total permanent removal is overstating what the technology does.

Is laser hair removal permanent?
It is a reduction, not a permanent removal. A single session cannot catch every follicle, because only hairs in their active growth phase respond. After a full course most people see a marked, long-lasting reduction, with any regrowth typically finer and lighter than before.
How many sessions will I need?
Six to eight for a full course is typical, spaced to catch follicles in their growth phase. Some patients then have a top-up every six to twelve months. Hair colour, thickness and the area treated all affect the number.
Does laser hair reduction hurt?
It is designed to be comfortable, and the diode system uses cooling throughout. Most patients describe warmth or a light flick rather than pain, though people who are sensitive may find some areas more intense.
Is it safe?
Laser hair reduction has been recognised by the US Food and Drug Administration as a safe method of hair reduction since 1997. Safety depends on it being performed under qualified supervision at settings correct for your skin tone.
When will I see results?

Which areas can be treated?

What does full body laser hair removal include?
Full body covers the areas most people want treated together — arms and underarms, legs, tummy, back and the bikini area — in one session rather than booking each separately. Face and the small areas such as upper lip, chin, brows and ears are priced on their own, because facial skin is thinner and takes different settings. Which areas are worth including is part of the assessment, not a fixed list.
Do you offer laser hair removal for men?
Yes. The areas men most often ask about are the chest, back, shoulders, the neckline and beard shaping — tidying the edges of a beard rather than removing it. Male hair is usually coarser and denser, so those areas often need the full course rather than a short one, and beard-line work is done conservatively because it cannot be undone.
Does laser hair removal work if my hair growth is caused by PCOS?
It does reduce the hair, but on its own it treats the symptom and not the cause — which is why hormonal drivers are checked first. With PCOS the follicles keep being stimulated, so regrowth between sessions is more likely and maintenance sessions are usually part of the plan rather than an afterthought. People who have the underlying condition managed alongside the laser get the more durable result.
Does laser work on grey, white or very fine hair?
Not reliably. The laser finds hair by its pigment, so grey and white hair has little for it to target, and very fine blonde or red hair responds poorly for the same reason. Dark hair on any skin tone is what responds best. If your hair has largely gone grey, an honest assessment at the consultation is worth more than a course of sessions.
Is IPL the same as laser, and can either give permanent hair removal?
IPL is a broad-spectrum light, not a laser, and it scatters across more of the skin. Laser targets a single wavelength. Neither delivers permanent hair removal in the literal sense — both are long-term reduction, which is why maintenance sessions are planned in. Any epilation method that promises permanence is overstating what the technology does.
