What Changes the Cost of Root Canal Treatment (RCT) in India

Root canal treatment starts at ₹2,999 per tooth at The Aesthetic Edge. What lifts a quote above that starting figure is the tooth itself — how many canals sit inside its roots, how far the infection has travelled, whether the canal work is finished in one sitting or split across two, and, most of all, whether a crown is inside the quote or priced separately afterwards.
That last point is where most of the confusion between one quote and another comes from, so it is worth taking the pieces one at a time.
Why do two people get quoted different amounts for the same procedure?
Because "a root canal" describes a range of work rather than one fixed task. The procedure always follows the same sequence — diagnosis and an X-ray, then anaesthesia and access, then cleaning, disinfecting and sealing the canals, then a restoration to rebuild the tooth. But the amount of work inside each of those steps varies enormously between one tooth and the next, and the quote follows the work.
Two teeth can need the identical procedure and take twice as long, need twice as much material, and need a second appointment. Neither dentist is quoting dishonestly. They are quoting different amounts of work.
Does it matter which tooth it is?
Yes, and this is usually the single largest clinical variable. Teeth at the front of the mouth are simpler structures than the molars at the back, and the canals inside them are correspondingly fewer and more direct. A back tooth may have several canals, and those canals can be narrow or curved in ways that only show up properly on the X-ray.
More canals means more of everything — more time to find and clean each one, more disinfection, more material to seal them, and a longer appointment. A straightforward single-visit case runs roughly 60 to 90 minutes; a tooth with complex canal anatomy is a different proposition and is often split across two appointments instead.
How does the extent of the infection change things?
The pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected because decay, a crack, repeated dental work or an injury has let bacteria reach it. How far that has progressed by the time you sit down changes what needs doing.
A tooth caught early may be cleaned, sealed and restored in one appointment. A tooth with an active infection often needs a second visit, so that the infection has settled before the canals are sealed. There may also be less sound tooth left to build on, which changes what the restoration afterwards has to do.
The practical version of this: waiting rarely makes a dental quote smaller.
Is the crown included in a root canal quote?
Often not, and this is the question to ask before you compare any two numbers.
A root-treated tooth has lost its blood supply and becomes more brittle, which is why a crown is recommended for back teeth rather than a filling alone — it protects the tooth from splitting under chewing load, and a split root-treated tooth is often not repairable. So for most back teeth the crown is not an optional extra; it is part of finishing the job properly.
It is, however, a separate restoration with its own materials and its own appointment, and different clinics quote it differently. One quote that looks higher than another may simply be the one that included the crown rather than leaving it to be discovered later. When comparing, ask each clinic the same question: does this figure include the final restoration, or not?
Where the tooth has enough sound structure left, the restoration may be a filling rather than a crown. That is a clinical decision about the tooth, not a budget decision — which one your tooth needs is settled at the appointment.
Does a two-visit root canal cost more than a single-visit one?
Not automatically, and it is worth being clear about why. A second appointment is not an upsell; it is what a tooth with an active infection or several curved canals sometimes needs so the infection settles before the canals are sealed. The dentist can only say which after seeing the X-ray.
What a second visit does add is your own time, so it is worth asking at the consultation whether one or two sittings is likely for your tooth, and planning around that rather than being surprised by it.
What does The Aesthetic Edge charge?
Root canal treatment starts at ₹2,999 per tooth, the same at our Indiranagar and Bellandur clinics. A consultation is ₹500, waived against treatment.
We deliberately do not publish a range for the full job, and the reason is honest rather than evasive: the number depends on the X-ray. Any figure quoted before anyone has looked at your tooth is a guess, and a guess written on a website is worth less than a straight answer given in person. What you get at the consultation is the examination, the X-ray, and a quote for the actual work your tooth needs, including the restoration.
Does a lower quote mean worse treatment?
Not necessarily — but a quote is only comparable if it covers the same scope. Before you weigh two numbers against each other, check that both of them answer the same set of questions:
- Is the X-ray and diagnosis included, or billed separately?
- Does the figure cover the final restoration, or only the canal work?
- If a crown is needed, what type, and what does it cost?
- Is it quoted as one sitting or two, and what happens if a second is needed?
- What happens if the treatment needs revisiting later? A small proportion of root canals do not fully resolve — a missed canal, a persistent infection or a later fracture — and it is fair to ask how that would be handled.
A clinic that answers all five plainly is easier to compare than one that quotes a single low headline figure.
The cost of not doing it
Worth stating, because it is the comparison people actually face. You can have a tooth extracted instead, and it will usually cost less on the day. But an extraction leaves a gap that then needs an implant, bridge or denture, and the jawbone where the root used to sit begins to resorb. Keeping the natural tooth is generally the better outcome where it is possible, and it is usually the cheaper one across the following few years.
