How many PRP sessions will I need?
Most patients are advised a session roughly once a month over three to five months, then spaced maintenance sessions. The exact number depends on how much thinning there is and how you respond, and is reviewed at the three-month mark rather than fixed at the start.
Does PRP hurt?
Numbing cream is applied for 30 to 45 minutes beforehand, so most patients describe the injections as pressure rather than pain. Some tenderness or a heavy feeling in the scalp for a day or two afterwards is normal.
When will I see results?
Reduced shedding is usually noticed first, within the first few weeks. Visible density takes longer, which is why review photographs are taken at three months. Results are not guaranteed and vary with the cause and stage of your hair loss.
Is PRP suitable if I am already completely bald in an area?
PRP acts on follicles that are still present and active. Areas that have been fully bare for a long period are unlikely to respond, and your doctor will tell you this at consultation instead of selling you a course that cannot work.
Is there any downtime?
No. Most patients return to work the same day. You are asked to skip hair washing for about 48 hours and to avoid exercise, swimming, steam and direct sun for two days.
Who should not have PRP?
It is not carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding, while you are on antibiotics or blood-thinning medication, or where there is an active scalp infection or a platelet disorder. Disclose all medication at consultation.
Is PRP the same as a hair transplant?
No, and we do not offer hair transplant. PRP is a non-surgical injectable treatment that supports the follicles you still have; it does not move hair from one part of the scalp to another.
