How many PRP sessions do you need for hair?
Most patients are advised a session roughly once a month over three to five months, followed by spaced maintenance sessions. The exact number depends on how much thinning there is and how you respond — and it is reviewed at the three-month mark against baseline photographs rather than fixed at the outset. A clinic quoting a final number before assessing you is guessing.
The usual course
A session roughly once a month, over three to five months. That is the starting plan for most patients.
Then maintenance, which is part of the plan
After the initial course, spaced maintenance sessions follow. This is worth understanding before you start rather than after: PRP supports follicles that are still active, and that support is ongoing rather than a one-time correction.
Budgeting for the initial course alone will understate what the treatment actually involves.
Why the number is not fixed at the start
The plan is reviewed at the three-month mark against your baseline photographs. How much thinning there is, and how you respond, both feed into what happens next.
That review is the useful part of the protocol. It is where a course gets extended because it is working, or stopped because it is not — and the second of those is a real outcome, not a failure of the clinic.
What the review is looking at
Reduced shedding is usually noticed first, within the first few weeks. Visible density takes longer, which is exactly why comparison photographs are taken at three months rather than judged by impression.
Hair grows slowly. A month is not long enough to see density change, however carefully you look in the mirror.
The question that comes before session count
PRP acts on follicles that are still present and active. Areas that have been fully bare for a long period are unlikely to respond, and your doctor should tell you that at consultation instead of selling you a course that cannot work.
If that applies to part of your scalp, the honest plan may cover less area than you hoped — and no number of sessions changes it.
Results are not guaranteed
The treatment page says so plainly, and it is worth repeating: results vary with the cause and stage of your hair loss. The three-month review exists precisely because that is true.
