The pigment softens gradually over time, at a rate depending on your skin type, sun exposure and skincare. Many patients have it refreshed periodically.

So it will fade. What it will not do is fade on demand.

Why fading is not the same as reversible

Removal options exist but are not straightforward. Our treatment page's honest advice is to be certain about the position at the marking stage rather than relying on reversing it later.

This is the practical difference between "semi-permanent" as a technical description and "temporary" as a decision. Treat it as a durable choice on your face.

Position is the part that cannot be undone

Which is why the position is drawn on and checked with you in a mirror from several angles before any pigment is implanted.

Take that stage seriously. Look from the front, in profile, and in the lighting you normally see yourself in. If you are unsure, that uncertainty belongs there, not afterwards.

Colour is deliberately started light

The doctor starts on the lighter side on purpose. Once healed, the colour can be deepened at review.

Making a mark lighter afterwards is much harder, which is why it is never done the other way round. If your first reaction on healing is that it is too subtle, that is the intended starting point rather than an under-delivery.

What makes it look natural

Shade and placement. Matching the pigment to your undertone rather than using a generic dark shade is what keeps it reading as a feature rather than an applied dot.

This is the opposite of mole removal

Worth stating clearly, because people arrive at these pages from both directions: this creates a cosmetic mark with pigment.
