Does getting a beauty spot hurt?

The short answer

A brief scratch. Numbing cream is applied first, and the placement takes only a few minutes.

This is one of the shortest procedures on offer here. The appointment is longer than the procedure, and almost all of that time is the part before the needle.

The marking-up stage is the appointment

The position is drawn on and checked with you in a mirror from several angles before any pigment is implanted, because position is the part that cannot easily be undone.

Give this stage the time it deserves. Look from the front, in profile, and in the light you usually see yourself in. Say if you are unsure — moving a mark on paper costs nothing.

What to expect afterwards

• Redness and slight swelling.
• Darkening, then flaking, as it heals. It looks stronger before it settles.
• Colour settling lighter than expected.

That last one is on the recognised list and is also the intended technique: the doctor deliberately starts on the lighter side, because the colour can be deepened at review while lightening afterwards is much harder.

So a subtle result on healing is usually the plan working, not a disappointment.

Allergic reaction or infection, and situations where the treatment is not suitable for someone — established at consultation. Bring your medical history and mention any reaction you have had to pigments, cosmetics or tattoos.

One session, then a review

The treatment is a single short session with a review once the colour has settled. The review is where the shade is adjusted if you want it stronger.

Before you book, one distinction

This creates a cosmetic mark. If what you want is an existing mole or skin tag removed, that is radiofrequency cautery, and the lesion needs examining by a doctor first — a different appointment with a different purpose.
