Are You a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers? An Honest Checklist

You are likely to be a reasonable candidate for dermal fillers if your concern is lost volume — flattened cheeks, folds from nose to mouth that stay put when your face is still, or a jaw or chin you want defined without surgery. You are likely not, if the problem is movement, laxity, or pigment. And no article can clear you, because volume, product and injection plane are decided by a doctor examining your face.
What follows is the checklist that consultation actually works through, so you arrive already knowing which of the three columns you probably sit in.
Which concerns do fillers genuinely address?
Read these as the clinic's own list rather than a general one.
- Cheeks that have flattened, leaving you looking tired on days when you are perfectly rested. Cheeks, temples and the under-eye area lose fat and bone support over time, and filler puts that support back directly.
- Folds running from the nose to the corners of the mouth that have set in — the ones visible when your face is entirely at rest.
- A jawline or chin you would like sharper, without an operation. Filler can refine a contour in measured amounts at those sites.
- Lips, where the goal is fullness or a change of shape.
- Hollowing under the eye that throws a shadow across the area.
- Certain rolling or depressed scars, which sit lower than the skin around them and can be lifted so they read as less noticeable.
If you recognised yourself in that list, the next step is an examination rather than more reading.
Which concerns belong to a different treatment?
This is the half most pages skip, and it is where wasted appointments come from.
Lines that only appear when your face moves. Squinting lines, frown lines, the creases that vanish the moment you relax — those are produced by muscle movement, and volume placed underneath does not change them. A wrinkle relaxer is the tool that reduces the movement making them. The two treatments are frequently combined in one plan, on different parts of the face, precisely because they solve different problems.
Loose tissue rather than lost volume. Where the issue is sagging in the lower face, adding filler is not the answer to it, and a thread lift is the more relevant conversation to have.
Dark circles caused by pigment. Under-eye filler and tear trough filler are the same treatment under two names, and what it addresses is hollowing plus the shadow a hollow casts. When the darkness is pigment held in the skin, putting gel beneath it does not lighten it. Which one you have is established by examining you, and it is genuinely common to have some of each.
Scars of other kinds. Filling works on depressions. It is not the approach for every scar type, and that judgement is made by looking at yours.
Being in this column is not a rejection. It means there is a treatment for what is bothering you and it is a different one, which is a better outcome than paying for the wrong tool.
What must you raise before anyone injects?
Not exclusions so much as facts your doctor needs in order to plan safely.
Everything you take. Prescribed medication and supplements both. Blood thinners and fish oil each make bruising and tenderness at the injection site more likely, and fish oil is the one people forget because it does not feel like a drug. Bring the labels if it is easier than remembering.
Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own initiative in order to qualify for a cosmetic appointment. Disclose it, and let the doctor decide whether the plan changes or the date does.
Any history of allergic reaction. Allergic reaction is one of the rare but genuine complications of filler, alongside infection and blockage of a blood vessel. Those possibilities are the reason this treatment sits with a doctor who can recognise and manage them, in a clinic that holds the reversal agent — and the reason your history is worth stating in full.
Whatever has already been placed in your face. Filler from a previous appointment, elsewhere or here, changes the plan. So does previous work with other injectables or threads.
Your calendar. Swelling and redness in the first hours to days are very common, particularly at lips and eyes, and typically settle within one to two days. Bruising, when it occurs, usually clears within a few days, and most people are fully recovered inside one to two days. If there is a wedding in nine days, say so before choosing the date rather than after.
When is the right answer to wait?
When nothing structural has actually changed yet.
There is no set age for starting. What decides it is what has altered in your face, not a birthday, and a doctor should tell you honestly when a filler is not the right answer for your concern at this point. Hearing "not yet" from someone who could have sold you a syringe is a good sign about where you are sitting.
Wait too if you are shopping by quantity. Fillers come in pre-filled syringes, usually one millilitre, and how many your plan uses depends on the area and on how much volume has been lost — a jawline and a lip rarely need the same number. Arriving having decided on three syringes before anyone has looked at you is starting from the wrong end.
What if you go ahead and dislike it?
Most fillers used in cosmetic work are hyaluronic acid based, and those can be dissolved with an enzyme injection. Confirm at consultation that yours is one of them. If the product settles unevenly in the first days, tell the clinic rather than massaging it yourself — hyaluronic acid can be adjusted properly, and pressing on it unsupervised is not adjustment.
Left alone, the effect fades anyway, over roughly six months to two years depending on the filler, the area and your own metabolism.
What does the assessment cost?
The consultation is ₹500, waived against treatment. Treatment starts from ₹14,999 per treatment, with your plan confirmed before any box is opened, and the sealed product opened in front of you so you can check it.
The appointment itself, if you proceed, runs about 15 to 30 minutes once the consultation is done — anaesthetic cream sits for 30 to 45 minutes first, the injection points are marked, and the result is visible almost immediately, though worth judging only after a day or two once swelling has gone.
Read the dermal fillers page for the full detail, then book an appointment. Bring the concern in your own words and let the examination decide which column you are in.
