What is BB Glow treatment?

Reviewed by The Aesthetic Edge medical team

BB Glow is a micro-needling treatment that drives a tinted, skin-nourishing serum into the upper layers of the skin, softening how uneven tone reads for roughly four to six weeks at a time. It is a cosmetic evening-out of appearance rather than a treatment for the cause of pigmentation, and it is semi-permanent, not permanent — the effect fades and is topped up.

The short version

A micro-needling pen makes very fine channels in the top layers of the skin while a tinted serum is worked in. The tint sits in those upper layers, so patchiness and dullness read as softer and more even. It is often described as "semi-permanent foundation", which is close enough to be useful and loose enough to be misleading — the point below.

Sessions run about an hour including preparation. Most people are advised a course of four to six, spaced roughly two weeks apart, with maintenance every four to five months. Full detail is on the treatment page.

What it is not

It is not permanent. The effect holds around four to six weeks per course before it fades. Anyone promising permanent BB Glow is describing something else, or overselling.

It is not a treatment for pigmentation. This is the distinction that matters most and the one marketing tends to blur. BB Glow changes how uneven tone looks; it does not address melasma, sun damage or post-acne marks at their source. If the goal is to treat the pigment rather than veil it, the honest answers are a chemical peel or Q-Switch laser, and a doctor should say so rather than sell you a course.

It is not a facial. There is needling involved, which means downtime, aftercare and genuine contraindications — see the side effects.

Who it suits

It tends to suit people who wear foundation daily and want their bare skin to look more even; whose tone photographs patchy or dull even after a facial; and who want something gradual rather than dramatic.

It suits you less well if you have active acne, very reactive skin, or a history of pigment marks after minor injuries — that last one is worth raising explicitly at the consultation, because it changes the risk calculation on any needling treatment for Indian skin tones.

What to ask before booking anywhere

Ask who performs it and whether they are medically qualified; what is in the serum; whether the cartridges are single-use; how deep the pen is set for your skin type; and what happens if the colour settles unevenly. A clinic that cannot answer all five is not the place to have needles put in your face.

At The Aesthetic Edge a doctor reviews your skin type and the cause of your pigmentation before any serum is chosen. The consultation is ₹500, waived against treatment.
