How long does a smile makeover take?
Anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Whitening and bonding are quick; anything involving orthodontic alignment or implants extends the timeline considerably, because both need biological time rather than chair time. Your dentist gives a schedule with the plan, and a plan can be staged over a longer period if that suits you better.
The range, and what puts you in it
A few weeks to several months. Which end depends almost entirely on whether your plan includes anything that has to wait for biology.
Quick: whitening, bonding, gum contouring.
Slow: orthodontic alignment and implants.
Why alignment and implants dominate the schedule
- Aligners for suitable cases run roughly 6 to 18 months; fixed braces typically 18 to 36. That is not chair time — it is how long teeth take to move safely.
- Implants need several months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone before the final tooth is attached.
Neither can be compressed by paying more or attending more often. If your plan includes either, it sets the timeline and everything else fits around it.
The order is part of the timeline
Sequencing is not arbitrary. Alignment usually comes before restorations, because moving teeth after they are veneered is a much harder problem. Whitening comes before matching any restoration shade, because ceramic and composite do not bleach.
So a plan is not a set of treatments that can be reordered for convenience — the order is doing work.
Staging it
You do not have to do everything at once. A plan can be spread over time, and the order still matters more than the pace. Discuss phasing at the planning appointment so the sequence survives being stretched out.

If you have a date in mind
Say so at the first appointment, and say what the date is. A wedding in three months and a wedding in eighteen lead to genuinely different plans — the shorter one may rule out alignment entirely and shift toward what can be done well in the time available.
That is a better conversation to have at planning than to discover halfway through.
Before anything starts
