Does high-frequency treatment help hair growth?

Reviewed by The Aesthetic Edge medical team

Not on its own. High-frequency therapy supports scalp circulation and condition, which can make a scalp a better environment for hair, but it does not treat the underlying cause of pattern hair loss and it will not regrow hair by itself. It is used alongside a diagnosis-led plan — the treatments that act on regrowth are GFC, PRP, QR678, exosomes and mesotherapy.

The direct answer

No — not by itself.

The treatment core is unambiguous about this and so is this page: high-frequency supports scalp condition and circulation. It does not treat the underlying cause of pattern hair loss, and it will not stop hair fall or regrow hair on its own.

Why it gets marketed as though it does

Because the mechanism sounds adjacent. Better circulation to the scalp is genuinely useful, and a scalp that is less congested, less oily and less flaky is a better environment for the hair growing out of it. From there it is a short and dishonest step to implying regrowth.

The gap in that logic is that most hair loss is not caused by a poor scalp environment. Pattern hair loss is driven by genetics and hormones acting on the follicle. Telangiectatic scalp circulation is not the bottleneck, so improving it does not fix the problem.

What high-frequency is actually good for

Getting a scalp into decent condition — often before starting something stronger, and alongside it afterwards. Congestion, oiliness and flaking are real problems, they make everything else work less well, and this treatment addresses them without needles.

That is a genuine role. It is just not the one people search for.

What does act on regrowth

All of these need a diagnosis first, because which one fits depends on why your hair is thinning:

  • GFC — growth factor concentrate from your own blood
  • PRP — platelet-rich plasma, the longest-established option
  • QR678 — a ready-made growth-factor formulation, no blood draw
  • Exosome therapy — a newer regenerative option
  • Mesotherapy — micro-injections of actives into the scalp

See all hair regrowth treatments for how they compare, or PRP vs GFC for the two most often confused.

The sequence that makes sense

Get the hair loss diagnosed. Treat the cause. Use high-frequency to keep the scalp in good condition while that plan runs, if the doctor thinks it helps yours.

Doing it the other way round — buying scalp treatments and waiting to see whether the hair comes back — is how people lose a year. Hair grows about a centimetre a month, so time is the expensive resource here.
