Combining Dermaplaning and BB Glow: Order, Spacing, and the Step BB Glow Already Includes

If you are planning both, the surface work comes first — but not as close together as most people assume, and the reason is not the one you would expect. BB Glow's own session already begins with an exfoliation step, so dermaplaning is not what makes the serum reach your skin. What the pairing actually has to solve is a scheduling clash, because the two treatments run on rhythms that do not fit inside each other.

That is the whole of the honest answer, and the rest of this page is why.

What does each treatment actually do to the surface?

Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation. A sterile single-use blade, held flat against the skin, lifts away dead surface cells and the fine vellus hair most people call peach fuzz. Nothing is injected, there is no downtime, and skin feels smoother by the end of the session. One of its documented strengths is exactly the reason people pair it with other things: clearing the surface first helps a facial or a peel reach the skin more evenly, so it is often done as a prep step rather than alone.

BB Glow Treatment is a different kind of procedure entirely. A tinted, hyaluronic-acid-rich serum is worked into the upper layers of the skin with a micro-needling pen at a controlled depth, so uneven tone reads softer for several weeks at a time.

Here is the part that changes the plan: a BB Glow session's second step is its own preparation. The face is cleansed and an exfoliating gel is applied for a few minutes, then removed, specifically so the serum reaches evenly prepared skin. The surface clearing you were going to book dermaplaning for is already in the appointment.

So should they be done in the same sitting?

That is a clinical call rather than a preference, and it is the one question on this page you should not answer from a web page — including this one.

What can be said plainly is why it is a question at all. BB Glow already exfoliates before it needles. Adding a blade pass immediately beforehand means two different exfoliations and then a needling pass, on skin that has to hold a pigment evenly afterwards. The depth the pen works at is a controlled variable, and the surface it is working on is part of that calculation.

Neither treatment's protocol says dermaplaning on the same day is required, and neither says it is ruled out. Where the pages are silent, the answer comes from the doctor who is looking at your skin, not from the sequence sounding sensible. Raise it as a question at the assessment rather than booking the two back to back and presenting it as a plan.

How far apart should they be if they are not combined?

Work backwards from BB Glow's course, because it is the less flexible of the two. Sessions run about two weeks apart across a course, and the aftercare asks you to pause retinol, AHAs and BHAs for the duration of that course — not just for a few days after each session.

Now put dermaplaning's own rhythm next to it. Its typical frequency is every three to four weeks, in step with the skin's own renewal cycle, and its result holds for roughly three to four weeks.

Those two schedules do not nest neatly. A course of four to six sessions at fortnightly intervals occupies a couple of months, and dermaplaning's natural cadence wants to land inside that window. The aftercare pause names chemical exfoliants rather than a blade, so this is not a stated prohibition — but it is clearly the same territory, and it is the reason the sensible default is to treat the course as a block and put dermaplaning either before it starts or after it finishes.

After a completed course, BB Glow is topped up every four to five months. That maintenance gap is where a dermaplaning rhythm fits comfortably, and it is worth planning for from the beginning rather than discovering halfway through.

What about the days immediately after a BB Glow session?

Not the window for any surface work. BB Glow's aftercare rules out soap, washing and scrubs for twenty-four hours, no makeup for twenty-four hours, swimming and vigorous exercise for a week, and sun, steam and saunas for two weeks.

A blade pass over skin inside that fortnight is self-evidently the wrong direction, and the two-week sun restriction is the practical one in Bangalore. Dermaplaning has its own non-negotiable — sunscreen is essential afterwards — and this city has no low-UV season to hide in. Monsoon cloud cover is not an absence of UV, and the pleasant weather is exactly what gets people outdoors more than they register. Two treatments that both end with "protect this from the sun" need one plan for that, not two.

Which one should I book first if I only have time for one?

Decide by what you actually want from the next month. Dermaplaning gives you smoother texture and makeup that sits flat the same day, which is why it is the one people book before an event — foundation catches on fine hair and flaking skin, and with both lifted it applies evenly. There is nothing to recover from and you can wear makeup that afternoon.

BB Glow is not that. It builds over a course and holds for weeks, and it asks for a fortnight of restrictions after each session. If your event is close, the order is not a dilemma: the fast one is the only one that fits.

Is there anyone this combination is not for?

Both treatments share a gate, and it is the same gate. Dermaplaning is not done over active inflamed spots, pustules or cysts, because the blade can spread bacteria and irritate lesions — if the acne is settled and the concern is texture or marks, it is often fine, and the assessment decides. BB Glow's first step is a doctor reviewing skin type, active breakouts and the cause of your pigmentation before confirming the route at all.

So an active breakout is a reason to postpone the pair rather than to pick between them, and the cause of the pigmentation is a question that has to be answered before BB Glow is agreed to in the first place.

Planning the pair sensibly

Bring the whole intention to one appointment rather than booking the treatments separately and hoping the sequence works out. Say what you want and by when, and let the assessment set the order, the gap, and whether anything belongs in the same sitting — all three of which depend on your skin rather than on a general rule.

Book an appointment at either branch, Bellandur or Indiranagar, and raise both treatments in that one conversation. The consultation fee is waived against treatment if you go ahead, and planning a course and a rhythm together at the start is considerably easier than rearranging them around each other later.
