A Missing Tooth Replaced at the Root, Not Just the Gap

Dental implants at Indiranagar and Bellandur, planned from a scan — with a free assessment first.

An implant replaces the root as well as the crown, which is why it does not rely on the teeth beside it and why the bone underneath keeps its job. It is the closest thing to the tooth you lost.

Is This You?

  • You chew on one side only, and have done for so long it feels normal.
  • A gap that shows when you laugh, so you have learned not to.
  • A bridge or denture that has never felt right.
  • You have been told you have lost bone and assumed that closed the door.

A missing tooth is not a cosmetic problem alone. The teeth beside it drift, the one above it drops, and the bone that used to hold the root begins to resorb — which is why the longer a gap is left, the more complicated replacing it becomes.

How an Implant Is Planned and Placed

Implants are a staged treatment over months, not a single appointment. You should know the whole sequence before you agree to the first step.

  1. 1. Assessment and imagingExamination plus X-rays or a CT scan to confirm there is enough bone and to map the safe position for the implant.
  2. 2. Treatment planA plan covering the number of implants, the type of restoration, whether any grafting is needed, and the expected timeline.
  3. 3. Implant placementThe implant is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. Sutures may be used, and the site is left to heal.
  4. 4. Restoration and reviewAfter osseointegration the abutment and final crown are fitted, the bite is adjusted, and the implant is reviewed at routine check-ups.

This is a doctor-run clinic. Your case is planned from imaging and explained stage by stage, with the full cost and the full timeline given upfront.

Every Story, Covered

  • The One-Sided Chewer

I lost a back tooth years ago and just adapted.

The adaptation is the problem — the opposing tooth over-erupts and the neighbours tilt. We assess what has already moved before planning.

  • The Front-Tooth Case

It is the first thing I see in a photograph.

Front implants are as much about the gum line as the tooth. Planned for how it will look when you smile, not only for how it sits in bone.

  • The Denture Wearer

I want to eat properly again without thinking about it.

Implants can stabilise a denture rather than replace every tooth — often a far smaller treatment than people assume.

  • The One Told It Was Not Possible

Someone said I do not have enough bone.

Sometimes true, often solvable. A scan tells us what is actually there and whether grafting is needed.

What Changes After Treatment

  • You chew on both sides againAn implant carries load like a root does, so you stop favouring one side.
  • The neighbouring teeth stay where they areFilling the gap stops the drift that turns one missing tooth into a bite problem.
  • The bone keeps its jobAn implant loads the bone that a gap leaves idle.
  • You stop thinking about itIt is cleaned like a tooth, it does not come out, and it does not announce itself.

Common Questions

Are dental implants painful?

Placement is done under local anaesthesia, so the procedure itself should not hurt. Afterwards, soreness and swelling for a few days are normal and are managed with medication and post-operative care.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually several months, because the implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone before the final tooth is attached. The exact timeline depends on bone quality and whether any grafting is needed.

Can implants replace more than one tooth?

Yes. Implants can support a single crown, a bridge spanning several missing teeth, or a full arch. The number of implants required is decided at the planning stage.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, implants are intended as a long-term solution. The crown on top may need replacing sooner than the implant itself.

What is the difference between an implant and a bridge?

A bridge is anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap, which must be reshaped to take it. An implant is anchored in the jawbone instead, so the neighbouring teeth are left as they are.

Do I need a bone graft?

Only if the scan shows there is not enough bone to hold the implant securely. This is common where a tooth has been missing for a long time, and your dentist will tell you at the planning appointment.

What is a dental implant made of, and what are the parts?

Three parts. A titanium post, shaped like a small screw, is placed into the jawbone and left to fuse with it — the process called osseointegration. An abutment then connects that post to the visible part. The crown on top is what you see and chew with. Titanium is used because bone bonds to it readily.
